A fresh leadership crisis has hit Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after Hon. Ahmad Ganga, a member of the Katsina State House of Assembly, publicly declared himself the party’s authentic National Chairman. The move intensifies ongoing tensions within the party and signals a potential legal showdown.
Ganga Challenges Party Leadership
In a press statement released on Wednesday, Ganga insisted that he is the “true and authentic Chairperson” of the APC, rejecting the legitimacy of the current leadership. He revealed plans to approach the Federal High Court to seek judicial intervention, describing the current National Working Committee (NWC) as an “illegitimate structure” that is undermining due process within the party.
“This action is necessary to protect the integrity of our party and uphold the rule of law,” Ganga said. “We cannot allow unlawful structures to manage the affairs of APC.”
Call for INEC Intervention
Beyond challenging the leadership, Ganga disclosed that he would request the court to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition from the party’s existing NWC. He argued that the move is crucial for restoring proper governance and safeguarding the democratic process within APC.
