Pisa striker Rafiu Durosinmi has expressed his excitement and long-term ambitions after earning his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup in London.
The 23-year-old forward was included in Eric Chelle’s squad for the four-nation tournament scheduled to take place from May 26 to May 30, as Nigeria begin preparations for their semi-final clash against Zimbabwe.
Durosinmi, who only joined Pisa in January, has scored once for the Italian side so far. He previously enjoyed an impressive spell at Czech club Viktoria Plzeň, where he netted 13 goals in 30 appearances before securing his move to Italy.
Speaking after his call-up in an interview shared on the official Super Eagles social media page, the striker said he was overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the invitation.
“I was so happy because it’s a great honour to be called out of many talents from Nigeria all over the world,” he said.
“I sent the message to my family and my agent, and they were all very happy.”
Describing the call-up as a major milestone in his career, he added:
“It means a lot to me. It’s a great honour to wear the jersey. It feels like a dream come true.”
Durosinmi also spoke about his long-term goals with the national team, saying he hopes to leave a lasting legacy.
“I want to finish my career as a legend. I want to be someone who played for the Super Eagles,” he said.
“I want to be remembered as someone who gave his best and was among the best.”
The forward is now in contention to make his senior debut when Nigeria face Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup semi-final on Tuesday in London.
