The United States Department of State has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information that could lead to the identification, location, arrest, or prosecution of Mojtaba Khamenei, who has reportedly emerged as Iran’s new supreme leader.

The announcement also listed several other senior Iranian officials as persons of interest. Among those named are Eskandar Momeni and Esmail Khatib, along with other figures linked to Iran’s security and intelligence structure.

Allegations tied to security operations

According to the State Department, the individuals are believed to be involved in directing elements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which U.S. authorities accuse of planning and carrying out terrorist activities across different parts of the world.

The reward is being offered through the Rewards for Justice Program, a U.S. government initiative that provides financial compensation for credible information that helps authorities identify or apprehend individuals linked to terrorism.

Officials stated that people with useful information can submit tips through secure communication channels. In some cases, individuals who provide valuable intelligence may also qualify for relocation in addition to the financial reward.

U.S. statement on the individuals

Explaining the decision, the State Department said the named figures play key roles within Iran’s security apparatus.

“These individuals command and direct various elements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which plans, organizes and executes terrorism around the world,” the department stated.

Background to the development

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the reported death of Ali Khamenei, who was said to have been killed in a bombing on February 28 at the start of a conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Further developments surrounding the situation are expected as geopolitical tensions in the region continue to unfold.
