The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that ongoing economic reforms — including fuel subsidy removal — are designed to deliver long-term benefits.
Speaking in Lagos, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said the policies may be tough now but are necessary to stabilise and grow the economy.
According to him, reforms around fuel subsidy, foreign exchange, and fiscal policies are part of a bigger plan to reposition Nigeria for sustainable development.
He made this known while receiving the Image Maker Award 2026, stressing that government communication must be built on trust, transparency, and accountability.
“These decisions are being made with the future in mind… the benefits will reach all Nigerians,” he said.
Idris also highlighted the importance of keeping citizens properly informed, especially during periods of major policy changes, noting that clear communication helps reduce tension and build public confidence.
He added that the government is working closely with security agencies and the media to ensure accurate information is shared and national stability is maintained.
Despite current economic challenges, the FG insists the reforms will eventually improve livelihoods and strengthen the country’s economy.
