A family is heartbroken and crying for justice. Their young brother went for malaria treatment. He ended up with kidney failure.

According to a viral social media post, the man is currently receiving intensive medical care after reacting to fake medication given for malaria.

“This is my little brother. The malaria drug he was given led to his kidney issues. May God punish every single person involved in manufacturing fake drugs in Nigeria.”

Photos from the hospital show him lying on a bed, attached to machines believed to be used for dialysis.

The family is devastated. “Nobody takes malaria drugs expecting to end up with kidney failure. We just want justice and stronger regulation so this doesn’t happen to another family.”

The internet is reacting strongly. One person wrote: “This is sad. People are dying because of greed. The government must act.”

Another said: “This is why you should only buy drugs from licensed pharmacies. Not from roadside shops.”

Someone else added: “May God heal him. And may the people behind fake drugs face the wrath of God.”

Health experts continue to warn Nigerians to purchase medications only from licensed pharmacies and hospitals.
