A woman has taken to social media to express frustration after her attempt to assist a pregnant friend during labour allegedly turned into a financial dispute when the woman’s husband insisted she should settle the ₦850,000 Caesarean Section (CS) hospital bill.
Distress call in the early hours
According to her account, the situation began in the early hours of the morning when she received a distress call from her friend.
“I checked my phone around 2 a.m. and saw that my friend was calling me. She said, ‘Please, where are you?’ I told her, ‘Where else would I be at this time if not in my husband’s house?’ She begged me to come because she was already at the hospital and in serious pain,” she recounted.
Because of the late hour, she initially asked her friend to wait until morning before she could come over.
Labour complications
She explained that when she arrived at the hospital around 5 a.m., her friend was still in labour.
“I asked her how long she had been in labour, and she said since the previous night. I then went to meet the doctor to find out what was going on. I told them that if she couldn’t deliver normally, they should go ahead with a Caesarean section,” she said.
However, the pregnant woman initially resisted the idea of surgery.
“She said, ‘No, I’ve given birth to three children naturally. Is it this fourth one that will make me do a CS?’ I kept explaining that every pregnancy is different and sometimes situations change.”
After further encouragement, the woman eventually agreed to undergo the operation.
Husband rejects responsibility
The surgery was successful, and she delivered a 3kg baby boy. After the delivery, the woman said she contacted the baby’s father, who works as a truck driver.
According to her, the couple had originally planned to have the baby at a health centre. However, when labour began unexpectedly, she was taken to a nearby private hospital because it was the closest available facility.
The situation reportedly escalated when the husband allegedly insisted that the friend who authorised the procedure should take responsibility for the hospital bill.
Expressing her frustration, the woman said:
“I have entered serious trouble just because I tried to help someone. If I had known, when she called me around 2 a.m., I wouldn’t have even answered the call. I was only trying to help a friend who was in pain.”

“I helped my friend, who had been in labor for almost 20 hours, get to the hospital. The doctor said the baby was too big and advised a C-section to save both mother and child.
