Nigerian cleric Paul Ephraim has sparked discussion online after sharing his observations about how people approach him when making donations, particularly the difference in behaviour between those giving smaller amounts and those contributing larger sums.
Attention for smaller donations
Speaking in a recent message, Pastor Ephraim explained that some donors tend to become overly insistent when they plan to give relatively smaller amounts.
“Just because you want to give a pastor ₦200,000, you’ll be calling: ‘Hello man of God, please are you in the office? Please wait for me.’ What can a man do? I’ll say, ‘Okay, I’m in the office,’” he said.
According to him, such urgency is often unnecessary, noting that the level of attention demanded sometimes feels disproportionate to the amount being given.
Larger donations, less fuss
The cleric contrasted this with his experience of receiving larger contributions, which he said often come with far less pressure or communication.
“Your friend can transfer ₦3 million and won’t even call. Later they’ll just say, ‘Sorry sir, just to confirm, did you receive it?’ And that’s all,” he explained.
He added that people who give larger amounts often do so quietly without insisting on immediate acknowledgement or special attention.
Reflections on generosity
Pastor Ephraim concluded by reflecting on what he believes is a lesson in humility and generosity.
“But the person bringing ₦200,000 will say I shouldn’t go anywhere and must wait for them, just because God has blessed them,” he said.
He encouraged people to give with sincerity and respect, emphasising that the spirit of generosity should matter more than the amount being donated.
