Man Recounts Dramatic Scenes During VeryDarkMan-Led Protest in Oyo State
A man has shared his experience from the protest led by social media activist VeryDarkMan in Oyo State, describing the dramatic events that allegedly unfolded during the demonstration over the abduction of pupils and a teacher in Oriire.
According to his account, the protest began peacefully as demonstrators marched to the Oyo State Government House to demand urgent intervention and the safe rescue of the kidnapped victims.
Speaking about the incident, he said the protesters successfully reached the governor’s residence, where Governor Seyi Makinde reportedly addressed the crowd.
“I witnessed something I’ve never seen in my life. What happened today is something I will tell my children and grandchildren about. We joined the protest, everything was peaceful, and we went to the governor’s house. The governor spoke to us,” he recalled.
However, he claimed that tensions escalated shortly after the protest ended and participants began dispersing.
According to him, panic erupted when some individuals allegedly started warning that armed men were approaching. The warnings quickly triggered fear among protesters, many of whom fled the area for safety.
“People started shouting, ‘They are coming with cutlasses!’ Everyone began running, and I ran too,” he said.
The witness further alleged that individuals carrying cutlasses, sticks, and bottles appeared at the scene, creating confusion and forcing many protesters to scatter.
In a dramatic turn of events, he claimed that VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, refused to flee despite the chaos.
“The craziest part was that VDM did not run. He faced them and charged back at them. When protesters saw VDM and Kokopee charging back, they also turned around and followed. The alleged thugs eventually fled the scene,” he added.
The account has since generated widespread reactions on social media. While many Nigerians have praised the bravery reportedly displayed by the protesters, others have questioned the identity and motives of those allegedly responsible for disrupting the demonstration.
The protest comes amid growing public concern over the abduction of pupils and a teacher in Oyo State, with citizens continuing to call on authorities to intensify efforts to secure the victims’ safe return.
