A man has narrated how he narrowly escaped a suspected kidnap attempt while travelling from Ibadan to Lagos along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Ajebo area of Ogun State.
The incident happened around 7:30pm while he was driving through a section of the highway known for security concerns.
According to him, armed men suddenly emerged from the bush and attempted to force his vehicle to stop by throwing heavy objects onto the road.
“One of them suddenly jumped out from the bush carrying two heavy objects, trying to force my car to stop. He threw the first one directly in front of my car while I was negotiating a bend, but I managed to swerve around it.”
He said the attackers attempted a second strike before he accelerated away.
“Before the others could position themselves, I brushed the main guy that attacked with my car and sped off. Thankfully, I escaped alive, but my bonnet, bumper, headlamps and fender were badly damaged.”
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has witnessed several reported robbery and kidnap incidents in recent years, prompting repeated calls for increased security patrols.
The internet is reacting. One person wrote: “This is terrifying. He is lucky to be alive.” Another said: “The government needs to do something about that road.” 😤
Someone else added: “Many people have not been so fortunate. God saved him.”
