Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has opened up about why he is not in a hurry to get married, admitting that the realities of modern relationships and marriage now make him fearful.
Speaking during a podcast interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, the 39-year-old artiste explained that seeing marriages collapse shortly after lavish weddings has changed the way he views marriage.
According to him, he has also witnessed the financial pressure many people face trying to fund expensive wedding ceremonies, revealing that several friends regularly reach out to him for financial assistance just to get married.
“These days I get scared of this marriage thing more and more every day because I see people get married and in less than a year they want out,” he said.
“I see the drama people go through to get married, the stress about borrowing money. My friends are constantly reaching out to me to borrow money to get married and I don’t want to be that person.”
Ice Prince added that he may eventually consider marriage later in life, possibly around the age of 40, noting that some people he admires got married at a similar stage in life.
“Some of my mentors got married at that age — somebody like M.I Abaga got married at that age. Maybe when I’m that age I’ll probably be thinking about that. For now, I don’t intend to,” he added.
The rapper also spoke about his long-term personal goals, revealing that he hopes to return to school someday and eventually run a farm.
He further explained that he does not see himself actively releasing music albums at 40, suggesting he plans to transition into a different phase of life in the future.
“Also, I have other goals when I’m 40. I intend to go to school. I really want to go to school so bad and I’d like to run a farm when I’m that age. I don’t intend to be dropping albums when I’m 40,” he said.
