A resurfaced interview involving Ayo Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti, is trending again and stirring fresh conversations about parenting influence and teenage decision-making.

The clip, originally recorded in 2023 but widely reshared on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, shows him speaking openly about how a statement from his father affected him while growing up.

According to him, a casual comment about his father’s teenage experience pushed him to try and “match” it while still a teenager.

“The only reason I lost my virginity at 16 is because my dad said he lost his at 17, so I wanted to be number one in my family,” he said.

The statement has since sparked mixed reactions online, with users debating how much influence parents’ words can have on their children, even when said casually.

While some people blamed lack of proper guidance and communication, others argued that personal responsibility still plays a major role regardless of family influence.

The clip continues to trend across X and Instagram, keeping the conversation alive around parenting, influence, and how young people interpret adult conversations while growing up.
