Nigerian Lady Shares Disappointment After Allegedly Being Rejected at Abuja Job Interview Over Physical Appearance

A Nigerian woman has sparked conversations online after recounting what she described as a humiliating experience during a job interview in Abuja, alleging that candidates were judged more on their physical appearance than their qualifications.

According to her, she had applied for a hostess position and arrived at the interview venue expecting a standard recruitment process. However, she was surprised to find a large number of applicants competing for the same role.

Expressing her frustration in a viral video, she said:

“I’ve never been this embarrassed in my life. I’ve honestly never felt this way before. I went for a job interview today in Abuja after applying for a hostess position.”

Appearance Allegedly Prioritized Over Qualifications

The woman claimed that before any formal interviews began, candidates were screened based on physical attributes such as height, body shape, complexion, and overall appearance.

According to her, several applicants were reportedly asked to leave during the initial screening stage, while others were instructed to stand in line as recruiters assessed their physical features.

She further alleged that candidates were asked to turn around while officials examined their bodies, a process she found both uncomfortable and degrading.

“Nobody Even Looked at My CV”

The lady said she was eventually disqualified without being given an opportunity to discuss her qualifications, work experience, or skills.

“They were asking us to do a 360-degree turn. They were checking our backside. If you didn’t have a certain body shape, they told you to leave,” she claimed.

“Nobody even looked at my CV. Nobody asked me a single question about my experience. From there, I just picked up my bag and started heading home. Apparently, I was disqualified because I don’t have a big backside.”

Reactions Trail Viral Video

Her account has since generated widespread reactions across social media, with many users debating appearance-based hiring practices and whether physical attributes should influence employment decisions for certain roles.

While some sympathized with her experience and criticized the alleged recruitment process, others argued that employers sometimes have specific requirements for customer-facing positions.

The incident has also reignited conversations about workplace discrimination, body image expectations, and the importance of ensuring recruitment processes focus on competence and professionalism rather than physical appearance.
