A Nigerian woman has sparked debate on social media after publicly criticising singer Mr Eazi and billionaire heiress Temi Otedola over a social media poll asking fans to predict the gender of their unborn child.

The criticism came after the celebrity couple invited followers to guess whether they were expecting a baby boy or a baby girl, a move that quickly generated reactions online.

However, not everyone found the exercise entertaining.

Lady Questions Timing of the Poll

In a video that has since gone viral, the woman expressed disappointment that Nigerians were being encouraged to participate in a gender prediction poll at a time when many citizens are struggling with economic hardship.

According to her, the activity highlights what she described as a growing disconnect between wealthy public figures and ordinary Nigerians facing the realities of rising living costs and financial challenges.

Sharing her thoughts, she said:

“Rich people, rich Nigerians, rich people generally are incredibly removed from reality and tone-deaf because asking Nigerians to vote whether your millionaire wife is having a boy or a girl…”

She argued that with millions of people battling inflation, unemployment, and the high cost of living, such discussions may seem out of touch with the everyday concerns of many Nigerians.

Social Media Users Divided

Her comments quickly attracted widespread attention, with social media users sharing differing opinions on the matter.

Some agreed with her stance, arguing that public conversations should focus more on issues affecting citizens rather than celebrity-related trends. They maintained that the poll reflected the privilege enjoyed by some public figures who may not fully understand the struggles faced by ordinary people.

Others, however, defended Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola, noting that the gender prediction poll was simply a lighthearted form of entertainment. They argued that participation was entirely optional and that celebrities should not be criticised for sharing personal milestones with their followers.

Debate on Celebrity Privilege Continues

The incident has reignited discussions about celebrity culture, privilege, and the expectations placed on influential figures during challenging economic times.

As reactions continue to pour in, the debate underscores the growing scrutiny public figures face online, particularly when their content is perceived as being disconnected from the realities of everyday life.

For now, the conversation remains divided, with supporters and critics offering contrasting views on whether the couple’s baby gender poll was harmless fun or an example of being out of touch with the current economic climate.
