A woman has stirred emotions online after sharing the heartbreaking story of a young mechanic apprentice who allegedly died shortly after being arrested during a raid by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

According to her, the incident occurred when SARS operatives reportedly stormed her street on a Saturday and arrested several young men who were playing football outdoors.
Among those taken away was a close friend of her brother — a 20-year-old apprentice who had recently begun learning automobile mechanics and was focused on building a future for himself.
She recalled that the young man’s family initially believed his release would be straightforward. However, when they visited to secure his freedom, they were allegedly informed that he had been identified as a cultist and transferred to Kirikiri Prison.

The woman said the situation took a tragic turn when the apprentice’s mother later visited the prison hoping to see her son.

“While growing up, SARS once raided my street and picked up all the young boys playing football outside on a Saturday.
My brother’s friend was among them. He was only 20 years old and had just started learning mechanics.
When his parents went to bail him, they were told he was a cultist and had been transferred to Kirikiri Prison.
A week later, his mum went to see him. They told her he had died due to overcrowding.
Whenever I think about him, my heart breaks. He was innocent.”
