A Nigerian lady has shared a chilling experience of how a stranger’s warning during a bus trip allegedly saved her from falling into the hands of suspected kidnappers while travelling to Lagos for a supposed job interview.
Journey to Lagos for an interview
According to her account, the incident occurred when she was travelling from Ibadan to Lagos while searching for better employment opportunities before completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
She explained that she had been actively applying to several companies in hopes of securing a better job. One of the organisations later contacted her with what appeared to be a promising job offer and invited her to Lagos for an interview.
Excited about the opportunity, she said she left Ibadan early that morning and boarded a bus heading to Lagos. However, during the journey, she began to feel an unusual sense of uneasiness.
Although she could not clearly explain the feeling, she said something did not seem right. Despite the discomfort, she continued the trip.
Passenger’s warning raises alarm
As the bus approached its final stop, she decided to ask the driver for directions to the location where the interview was supposed to take place.
Suddenly, one of the passengers in the vehicle shouted, “Don’t go there!”
The man reportedly explained that his cousin had travelled to the same area the previous week for a job interview and had not returned since. He added that their family had already begun trying to track down the individuals responsible.
Quick decision to return home
The warning immediately frightened her. Realising the potential danger, she thanked the passenger for speaking up and decided not to continue with the trip.
Instead, she got down from the bus and boarded another one heading straight back to Ibadan.
Online search reveals alleged scam
After returning home, she said she carried out further research about the company that had invited her for the interview.
According to her, she later discovered that the organisation had already been flagged online as a group allegedly involved in scamming and kidnapping unsuspecting job seekers.
Reflecting on the incident, she described the experience as a miracle she still struggles to explain. She also advised job seekers to always verify companies and interview invitations before travelling, warning that not every opportunity presented is genuine.
