Drama has reportedly unfolded in a residential building after a landlord issued quit notices to all single male tenants following his recent marriage to a 23-year-old woman.
According to one of the affected tenants, the landlord’s wife had travelled abroad for omugwo and had stayed away for nearly two years, showing no intention of returning. This, he claimed, led the landlord to remarry.
Landlord’s decision sparks concern
The situation took a surprising turn when the landlord allegedly asked all unmarried men in the building to vacate the premises.
He reportedly justified his decision by saying he did not want single men around his new wife, especially those he described as “young and active.”
Tenants react
Some of the affected tenants said they have tried to appeal the decision, but the landlord has remained firm. He reportedly issued a six-month notice to all single male tenants while allowing only married tenants to stay.
One tenant shared his frustration, saying:
“Our landlord married a 23-year-old girl because his wife travelled abroad for omugwo and hasn’t returned for almost two years.
That’s not even the issue. The problem now is that he has given all single male tenants quit notice because he believes we might ‘snatch’ his wife from him.
We’ve begged him several times, but he refused. He said he doesn’t want single guys in his house, especially those who go to the gym.
He gave us six months’ notice. Only married men were allowed to stay.
Please, what does the law say? Because I’m not planning to move out.”
The situation has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many people debating whether the landlord’s decision is justified or discriminatory.
