The 2027 race just got a major twist. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria. And all eyes are on Peter Obi. 👀
The announcement came on Saturday during the party’s national convention in Abuja. Top leaders attended. Obi was there. Kwankwaso was there. The room was filled with heavy political names. 🗣️
Zoning is a political agreement where a party decides which region its candidate must come from. By zoning to the South, NDC has basically cleared the path for Obi, a Southerner, to become their flagbearer.
Just days ago, Obi and Kwankwaso formally joined NDC from ADC. They received their membership cards from former Bayelsa governor, Seriake Dickson. Now, the party is already shaping its structure around them. That is fast movement. 📈
On top of that, 17 House of Representatives members have defected from ADC to NDC. That is not small. That is political weight shifting in real time. Obi left ADC because of internal crises and hostility. Now he is settling into NDC, and the party seems ready to match his ambition.
