Reality TV star and actress Bam Bam Olawunmi-Adenibuyan has broken her silence on the phone theft incident that occurred during the service of songs held in honour of actor Alexx Ekubo in Lagos.
Addressing the controversy sparked by a viral video circulating online, Bam Bam clarified that the woman seen allegedly removing a phone from her bag was actually her personal assistant and not the individual responsible for the disappearance of her device.
According to the actress, she only discovered that her phone was missing after leaving the event and getting into her car. She explained that the gathering attracted many attendees who approached her for greetings, conversations, and photographs, making it difficult to determine exactly when the phone went missing.
Speaking on the incident, Bam Bam revealed that her immediate concern was not the device itself but the valuable personal data stored on it, including contacts, photos, and videos that had not been backed up to the cloud.
She, however, expressed greater disappointment that anyone would choose an event dedicated to mourning and remembrance as an opportunity to steal.
The actress further disclosed that she was not the only victim, alleging that several other attendees also reported missing phones, including some of her friends and a relative of the late actor.
“I got into my car and noticed my phone wasn’t with me. The video circulating around of a lady removing a phone from my bag — that was my personal assistant.
“Probably while we were hugging and exchanging pleasantries, or at some point when people came to take selfies, because it was really odd that people wanted to take selfies during the event.
“The first thing that hit me was sadness. I was really sad that my contacts, videos, photos — a lot of them weren’t backed up on the cloud.
“Then I felt compassion. What would make any human being consider a service of songs a place to rob people?
“And it wasn’t just my phone that was stolen. My friends’ phones were taken too, and I think even one of Alex’s brothers lost his phone, as well as another attendee. It was really sad,” she said.
Her comments have since generated reactions online, with many social media users expressing sympathy over the incident while condemning the alleged thefts that reportedly occurred during the solemn event.
