Founder of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has reignited debate in Nigeria’s education space after once again calling for the scrapping of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In a viral post shared online, the cleric revealed that he has maintained this stance for over eight years, arguing that the current admission system places unnecessary pressure on students seeking higher education.
According to him, Nigeria’s reliance on a centralized entrance exam contradicts how admissions work in many other countries.
He explained that through his ministry’s scholarship program, which has reportedly run for over 16 years, students sent abroad to countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Poland, Cyprus, Canada, Ghana, and Cotonou were admitted into universities using only their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results and proof of tuition payment — without the need for an additional entrance exam.
This comparison, he said, raises questions about the necessity of JAMB in Nigeria’s academic system.
His comments come amid the ongoing 2026 UTME exercise, which has already generated mixed reactions from candidates nationwide.
While some Nigerians agree with his position, arguing that the system should be restructured or simplified, others believe JAMB still plays an important role in regulating admissions and maintaining standards across institutions.
The statement has once again sparked conversations around access to education, examination stress, and possible reforms in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process.
