Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno State South, has said Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity challenges could be brought under control within six months if the Federal Government shows enough commitment and political will.
He made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he expressed deep concern over the rising wave of violence, particularly in the North-East.
“It’s About Will, Not Complaints”
Ndume stressed that ending insecurity is not about lamentation, but decisive leadership and action.
“If the President and the Federal Government are serious about this, we can end this thing in six months,” he said.
According to him, what is urgently needed is proper training, equipment, and motivation for security personnel.
Calls for Better-Equipped Forces
The senator lamented the repeated loss of military officers and troops, describing the situation as unacceptable and avoidable.
He urged the government to strengthen operational capacity by ensuring soldiers are well-equipped and supported to effectively confront threats.
Push for Technology-Driven Security
Ndume also emphasized the importance of modern technology in fighting insecurity, noting that intelligence gathering, drones, and command systems are critical tools.
“We need intelligence, air support, and expertise… we can use technology to minimise these things within the shortest time,” he added.
He pointed to examples of other African countries leveraging technology to improve security outcomes.
Acknowledgement of Local Efforts
The senator commended Babagana Zulum, noting that Borno State would have faced worse conditions without his interventions.
Worsening Security Situation
His comments come amid renewed security concerns across Nigeria, including recent attacks and airstrike incidents in the North-East that have raised public alarm.
The Federal Government, however, has continued to insist that efforts are ongoing to strengthen national security architecture.
