Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed strong confidence in his vision for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly regarding development in the northern region.
Speaking during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television, Obi said his plans for the North stand out and could significantly transform the region’s economic fortunes if properly implemented.
North as Nigeria’s Greatest Asset
Obi described northern Nigeria as one of the country’s most valuable assets, especially due to its vast agricultural potential.
He argued that with the right investment and structure, agriculture in the region could generate more revenue than oil currently provides.

“Nobody can do what I intend to do in the North… We will change the North,” he said.
Focus on Agriculture and Development
The former Anambra State governor emphasized that unlocking the North’s agricultural capacity would play a key role in reducing poverty, boosting food production, and strengthening the national economy.
He maintained that Nigeria’s over-reliance on oil has limited its growth potential.
Call for Stronger Democracy
Beyond economic plans, Obi also stressed the importance of strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring a vibrant opposition in the country.
He noted that a healthy democracy depends on fairness, inclusion, and open political competition.
