The African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress) has raised serious concerns over what it describes as attempts to frustrate its planned national convention, despite already securing and paying for a venue.
In a statement released ahead of the event, the party claimed that the management of Rainbow Event Centre informed them of mounting pressure to cancel their booking.
Allegations Point to FCT Authorities
According to the party, the pressure allegedly came from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The ADC alleged that the venue owner was warned his operating licence could be withdrawn if the event was allowed to proceed.
“After paying all required fees… the owner informed us he is under pressure from the FCDA and the FCT Minister,” the party stated.
Party Insists Convention Will Hold
Despite the alleged interference, the ADC maintained that it has a valid agreement with the venue and will proceed with its convention as planned.
The party described the situation as an attempt to suppress political activity and accused authorities of undermining democratic freedoms.
“We will not bow to this creeping tyranny… ADC is rising, Nigeria is rising,” the statement added.
Venue Uncertainty and Failed Alternatives
The party also revealed earlier challenges in securing a location for the convention, noting failed attempts to book major venues such as the Moshood Abiola Stadium and Eagle Square.
As of press time, neither the FCDA nor the FCT Minister has responded to the allegations.
