A woman on X, identified as Ebun, has shared a lighthearted but relatable story about how a small pricing discovery unexpectedly strained her relationship with a neighborhood shop owner.
A Surprising Price Discovery
Ebun usually buys 10 bags of pure water every month from a shop near her home. During a recent visit, she noticed a supplier delivering water and asked one of the delivery boys about the price.
He told her the wholesale cost was ₦350 per bag, while the shop owner sells it for ₦500.
Instead of confronting the shop owner, Ebun quietly bought something else and left.
Switching Shops
Later that evening, she visited a shop directly opposite the first store and asked the price of a bag of water.
“₦400,” the second shop owner replied.
She immediately bought 10 bags, and the sales staff carried them to her house—right past the first shop, where the original owner could see them.
Awkward Morning
The next morning, Ebun greeted the first shop owner as usual, but received no response, leaving her to assume the woman had noticed she had taken her business elsewhere.
In her post, she recounted:
“I usually buy 10 bags of pure water every month from a woman whose shop is close to my compound. Yesterday, I went to her shop to buy water and met the supplier delivering bags. Out of curiosity, I asked one of the boys offloading the water how much they sold a bag. He said ₦350, but this woman sells it for ₦500.
I didn’t say anything. I just bought something else instead of water and left.
Later that evening, I went to another shop directly opposite hers. ‘Madam, how much is a bag of pure water?’ ‘₦400,’ she replied. I said, ‘Please give me 10 bags.’
Her sales boys helped me carry them home, passing right in front of the first shop. She saw us.
This morning, I greeted her… she didn’t answer me.”
The story has since gone viral, sparking conversations about pricing, loyalty, and the small but sometimes awkward dramas of neighborhood shopping.
