Amad Diallo came off the bench to score a dramatic late winner as Ivory Coast defeated Ecuador 1–0 in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia.

The Manchester United winger struck in the 90th minute to secure all three points for the Elephants and end Ecuador’s impressive 19-match unbeaten run, which had stretched close to two years.

Diallo was initially left out of the starting lineup as Ivory Coast returned to the World Cup stage for the first time in 12 years, but he ultimately proved to be the match-winner after coming on in the second half.

With the game seemingly heading for a goalless draw, Wilfried Singo drove forward on a powerful run before setting up Diallo inside the box. The winger kept his composure and guided a precise left-footed finish into the bottom corner, sending the Ivorian bench and supporters into wild celebration.
