Akpabio Accuses Opponents of Spreading Negative Narratives About Tinubu’s Administration
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused political opponents of deliberately spreading negative narratives about Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that critics have struggled to fault the government’s performance and reforms.
Speaking at a public event, Akpabio claimed that opposition figures often insist that “nothing is happening in Nigeria” whenever elections approach. According to him, such claims are politically motivated and aimed at shaping public perception ahead of future polls.
He argued that critics resort to distractions when they are unable to challenge the administration on its achievements.
“When they realise that they cannot talk about projects, when they realise they cannot talk about performance, when they realise they cannot talk about good laws, they begin to look for other tactics,” he said.
The Senate President further alleged that some individuals were sponsoring unrest and instability across the country for political reasons.
Security Concerns
Addressing concerns over insecurity, Akpabio urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and not lose hope despite ongoing security challenges in some parts of the country.
He suggested that certain kidnapping incidents were being used to create fear and paint Nigeria as an unsafe country, while maintaining that security agencies have made significant progress in tackling threats, even if their efforts often go unnoticed.
Expressing confidence in the country’s future, he stated: “The devil you see today, you will see them no more.”
Elections Should Not Divide Nigerians
Akpabio also appealed for unity, stressing that political contests should not permanently divide the nation.
According to him, elections are temporary events, while national unity and development should remain the priority.
“Elections will come and go, but elections will never be our end,” he said.
