Peter Obi has strongly condemned the alleged killing of a young man in Effurun, Delta State, reportedly carried out by a police officer identified as Mr. Mene Ogidi.
In his reaction, Obi described the incident as unacceptable and a direct violation of the rule of law.
He said no one has the right to take a life outside due process, stressing that justice must always follow legal procedure.
“It is not only barbaric but a grave violation of the rule of law,” he stated.
Obi noted that the incident adds to growing concerns about repeated cases of violence and abuse involving members of the Nigeria Police Force, warning that such actions deepen public fear and distrust.
He also expressed sympathy for the victim’s family, saying incidents like this leave lasting trauma and worsen an already tense national atmosphere.
Calling for urgent reforms, Obi urged authorities to strengthen recruitment processes within security agencies to ensure only mentally and professionally fit individuals are armed.
He further commended the police for their initial response to the case but insisted that transparency and accountability must be followed through to the end.
The incident continues to spark reactions online, with many Nigerians demanding justice and broader reforms in the country’s security system.
