Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly endorsed his ambition to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election.

Hamzat made the disclosure after a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the All Progressives Congress Governance Advisory Council (GAC), led by Tajudeen Olusi.

According to him, the backing from key party leaders and the President gives him confidence as he prepares for the next political step.

“Mr. President has blessed us and blessed the decision of GAC to support my candidacy,” he said.

He described his ambition as bold but insisted that years of experience as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu have fully prepared him for the job.

Hamzat likened governance experience to working inside a kitchen, saying understanding the system is key before taking full control.

The endorsement reportedly follows growing political backing within the APC structure, including support from the GAC and other top stakeholders.

However, party officials have maintained that the governorship race is still open, stressing that official primaries will determine the final candidate ahead of 2027.

The development is already generating political discussions across Lagos as the succession race begins to take shape.
