Manchester United are on the verge of securing their first signing of a new chapter under head coach Michael Carrick, having reportedly reached an agreement with Atalanta for Brazilian midfielder Ederson.
The deal is believed to be worth £35 million, with a further £3.9 million in performance-related add-ons, while the player is expected to sign a four-year contract that includes an option for an additional year.
Medical scheduled as move nears completion
Although the transfer has yet to be finalized, Ederson is expected to undergo a medical examination in the coming weeks.
Sources indicate that all parties are confident the move will be completed in early July, allowing the midfielder to join his new teammates before the start of Manchester United’s pre-season preparations.
If completed, Ederson will become the first player signed since Michael Carrick was appointed permanent manager last month.
United begin midfield rebuild
The arrival of the 26-year-old is expected to mark the beginning of a significant midfield restructuring at Old Trafford following the departure of Casemiro.
Club officials are reportedly keen to strengthen the centre of the park and are believed to be targeting as many as three midfield additions during the summer transfer window.
Manchester United continue to monitor several options, including Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson, as they look to add depth, energy and quality to the squad.
More reinforcements planned
United’s recruitment plans extend beyond midfield, with the club also assessing potential additions in defence and attack.
On the left side of defence, Lewis Hall is among the players being considered as the club seeks greater competition and depth in that position.
Meanwhile, United are also exploring attacking reinforcements to provide support for Benjamin Sesko, while uncertainty surrounding Andre Onana’s future has prompted the club to evaluate potential goalkeeping options.

Ederson joins Manchester United with a strong reputation after establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most reliable midfielders during his time at Atalanta.
The Brazilian made 180 appearances for the Italian side, scoring 16 goals and showcasing his versatility across multiple midfield roles.
His consistent performances also earned him recognition at international level, resulting in three senior appearances for Brazil and inclusion in the country’s provisional squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With the transfer now entering its final stages, Manchester United supporters may not have to wait much longer before seeing the club’s first signing of the summer officially unveiled.
