The Nigerian naira maintained a relatively stable performance against the United States dollar on Friday, June 12, 2026, trading within a narrow range across both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets.

In the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the naira exchanged at about ₦1,362 to the dollar, according to figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The rate showed slight fluctuations during the week, trading between approximately ₦1,360 and ₦1,375 in recent sessions, reflecting modest gains and overall market stability.

In the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, the dollar traded between ₦1,395 and ₦1,400. Buying rates were slightly lower, ranging from about ₦1,380 to ₦1,390, depending on location and market conditions.

Market observers noted that the gap between official and parallel market rates has remained relatively narrow in recent times, a development linked to improved dollar liquidity and ongoing policy efforts aimed at stabilising and increasing transparency in the foreign exchange system.

At current rates, $100 exchanges for approximately ₦136,200 at the official window, while it goes for about ₦139,500 to ₦140,000 in the parallel market.

Analysts say the naira’s future movement will continue to depend on foreign exchange inflows, demand pressure, and monetary policy decisions, all of which remain key drivers of market sentiment.

Exchange rate snapshot (June 12, 2026):

  • Official NFEM: ~₦1,362/$
  • Parallel market: ~₦1,395–₦1,400/$

Rates may vary slightly across banks, bureaux de change, and street traders depending on location and demand.
