Isaac Fayose Criticises Governance and Insecurity in Nigeria, Says Citizens Face ‘Two Governments’
Businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has sparked reactions online after using a metaphor to criticise both governance and insecurity in Nigeria.
Speaking in a video shared on social media, Fayose argued that many Nigerians appear to be living under two parallel systems of authority — one represented by government institutions that collect taxes, and another represented by criminal groups that profit from kidnappings and ransom payments.
Expressing frustration over the country’s challenges, he suggested that citizens continue to endure economic hardship and insecurity despite fulfilling their civic obligations through taxation.
Fayose also condemned the growing wave of kidnappings and ransom demands across parts of the country, describing the situation as a reflection of deeper problems within Nigeria’s security and governance structures.
Drawing comparisons with countries he believes have stronger institutions and more effective leadership, Fayose argued that nations with functioning systems tend to provide better living conditions and greater security for their citizens.
Speaking in the video, he said:
“In Nigeria, we have two governments. One is collecting tax, while the other is collecting ransom. Both of them have one thing in common, which is making life difficult for the people.
“The one collecting tax without doing much will come and share rice and semolina. The one collecting ransom is doing giveaways on social media.
“One country, two governments. One collecting tax, one collecting ransom. But in other countries, they have one government and their country is developed. Let me show you…”
The remarks have since generated debate on social media, with users sharing differing opinions on governance, public service delivery, insecurity, and the state of the nation.
