Former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel has weighed in on Chelsea’s ongoing search for a new manager, and he’s not holding back.
Speaking on his podcast, Mikel admitted the job isn’t exactly attractive right now due to the uncertainty around the club.
“No top manager will want to come to Chelsea right now… you don’t know what’s happening,” he said.
Since the BlueCo takeover, Chelsea have gone through multiple managers, raising concerns about stability and long-term direction.
Mikel made it clear that what the club needs now isn’t just a coach, but a strong manager who can take full control.
“We need a manager, not just a coach… someone who will say this is my club,” he added.
When it came to choosing the next boss, Mikel backed a familiar name — his former teammate Filipe Luís.
He praised his work and style, especially what he has done with Flamengo.
“His team plays with structure and purpose… he’s a fantastic manager,” Mikel said.
While names like Andoni Iraola and Cesc Fàbregas have also been linked, Mikel believes Filipe Luís stands out.
Chelsea now turn their attention to a big clash against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, as the search for a new manager continues behind the scenes.
