President of the Arewa Youths, Yerima Shettima, has sparked reactions online after issuing a stern warning to social media activist, VeryDarkMan, over the ongoing protest campaign he recently launched in Abuja.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Shettima accused the activist of previously making derogatory remarks about Northerners and urged him to take his protest to Edo State rather than staging it in Northern Nigeria.
“Before I come back to Abuja, VeryDarkMan, you should relocate your protest to Edo State. I am not in Abuja. VeryDarkMan, this message is for you and your sponsors. Relocate your protest to Edo State before I come back to Abuja,” he said.
The Arewa youth leader argued that security agencies have recently recorded significant progress in the fight against insecurity and should not be distracted by protests that could heighten tensions in the region.
According to him, Northern youths are prepared to defend their region and will not tolerate any action they perceive as capable of destabilizing the North.
“We are not scared of you. Let me tell you, VeryDarkMan, you and whoever is supporting you, we the Northern Nigerians are ready. We are ready to protect the North. Relocate your protest back to Edo State.
“There’s insecurity in Edo State, so go there and lead your protest. Don’t start that in Abuja. This is a warning to you,” he added.
The warning comes shortly after VeryDarkMan returned from China and began a series of protests in Abuja, drawing attention to what he described as worsening governance challenges and the growing wave of kidnappings across the country. The activist has also called for the immediate rescue of the abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State.
Since the video surfaced online, Nigerians have continued to share mixed reactions, with some supporting Shettima’s position while others defend VeryDarkMan’s right to protest and raise concerns about national issues.
